Jeffrey LaMarche
Computer Science PhD Student, University of Colorado
History:
I graduated from the University of Hartford in Connecticut in May 2000 with a B.S. in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics. After college I took a system administration position in the Computer Science department at Brown University in Rhode Island. There I met Khara, a Neurosciences PhD student. After I had been at Brown for two years we moved to California as Khara transfered to the UCSD Neurosciences program. Deciding to move at this time was not a great move career-wise, as I was temporarily unemployed during the dot com bust. Eventually I took a short term position playing video games for Sony; it was not fun. I found another system administrator position at the University of California San Diego, which was one of the worst jobs I have had, but it did propel me into applying to graduate school. After being out of academia for seven years I am very excited to be back in school.
Research/Academics:
My current interest lies in the area of human computer interaction, specifically medical informatics. In the near future I will be working with my advisor, Katie Siek, on medical informatics projects.
Personal:
In my free time I like to play with my Wii, read, and exercise. Soon I hope to get back into biking and hiking.
Khara and I also have a family of three wonderful cats!
