Assignment # 3
1) Visit one of the following websites and explore it
I visited, http://www.experts-exchange.com/
2) Briefly discuss for your chosen website:
what did you find interesting about it?
It is close to an IT professional's dream and I emphasise "close" because it lacks general purpose articles and tutorials on the various subjects that it has. However, it is more collaborative in nature and the discussion forums are great. I know of a simialr site: "www.codeguru.com" where people post problems and solutions. "experts-exchange" is nicely laid out into categories and sub-categories and it is easy to find a forum of specific interest. The bad part is that it charges close to a $100 per year and as I stated earlier, it lacks articles and tutorials.
in which way is it related to "collaboration"?
The discussion boards function with a collaborative approach. People bring together their problems in the forums which are discussed until a perfect solution is found. Sometimes, the perfect solution is discussed further and sometimes a perfect solution cannot be found. Either way, everyone gets a chance to increase their learning from all these collaborative discussions.
how does it compare with the Swiki used for our class?
Swiki gives us an opportunity to benefit from each other's views, questions, ideas and mistakes. The forums at "experts-exchange" give the same opportunities.
3) have you ever read a book(s) / article(s) (or books) about collaboration? if yes:
I have not.
