what did you find interesting about the article?
I always thought people who majored education should design learning and schooling. After reading this article I feel I can do something about it. It is a unique article. It is an eye-opening paper. Now I think the construction project control system that I am planning design and implement is a system supporting project managers to learn how to diagnose problems in their projects. Hopefully, their tacit knowledge on project controls can be activated and shared among the members of the project management team.

2. What do you consider the main message of the article?
Computer-based information systems supporting learning and collaboration should be designed as user-centered ones rather technology-centered.
We should rethink the meanings of many basic things. For examples: How to self-guided learn? How to teach? What is to be learned? What are the functions of a school?

I select John Dewey to write.
John Dewey (1859 – 1952) was an American philosopher and educator. Dewey advocated what he called discovery learning, in which learners uncover facts, theories, and relationships for themselves in the course of solving meaningful problems. The teacher’s role was to guide students and facilitate discussion. As Dewey asserted, problem-based discovery learning leads to a deeper and more meaningful understanding than mere memorization of facts. Because of the emphasis on discovery, students who graduate from problem-based courses may actually know fewer facts than those who studied more traditional lecture-based programs. But in a fast-moving field, “factual” knowledge is soon obsolete. Graduates from problem-based courses who learn how to solve problems are far better prepared for a lifetime of learning and discovery than those taught in lecture formats.

I consider the website of our Department of Computer Science is pretty good. It allows the users to explore many things, ranging from department news, classes, professors, etc. to related research centers, at several levels.
