I found the community of practice at Schlumberger to be interesting - how the community worked with eachother and their uses of technology, and how they worked and what they used to achieve their goals/tasks. 1.2. not interesting about the article? 2. what do you consider the main message of the article? Knowledge management is necessary for success - especially in large companies. AI methods/techniques are needed, but the information needs to be easy and accessible for people to retrieve. 3. what are 3.1. the strengths / successes and storing and updating information. everyone has access to it. 3.2. the weaknesses /failures accessing good/releveant information when you want to access it. of knowledge management? 4. what are you personal experiences with 4.1. knowledge management and Past internships have allowed me to work with databases. 4.2. knowledge management systems? I guess the only thing I can think of is the swiki, which I think is great for the class. 5. How would you differentiate between "pull" and "push" approaches in knowledge management? What are the trade-offs between the two approaches? In which situations would you use one or the other approach? Pull is when you actively search to find something, and push is when you are basically provided help/assistance or guidance as to where to search/look. Pulling allows more flexibility, but pusing may be of great assistance when there is trouble finding something specific. I would use the pull approach if I knew what I was looking for specifically and I knew how to find it. I would use the push approach if I wasn't too sure and I felt like I need guidance/assistance. 6. please discuss why and how the two following quotes are (or are not) relevant for knowledge management: 6.1. "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." (George Santayana) This is relevant. Using knowledge management allows people to see what mistakes happened in the past so that they do not make the same mistakes again. 6.2. "Innovation is everywhere; the difficulty is learning from it" (John Seeley Brown) This is relevant. Knowledge management can be very benenficial and we can all gain knowledge from it, if we are willing to use it and learn from it. |
