1. what are aspects of the course so far that are positive and should be sustained?
I like the subjects covered in the class, because they are very different from those typical core courses. They are very important issues.
2. what do you think about the following parts of the course?
2.1. Lectures
I think professor can give a list of topics he wants to cover in the lecture, and students can be broken into 3 to 4 discussion groups. In this way, we can have more change to learn from each other. After 10 minutes discussion, professor can precede the lecture, and each group can have a speaker to tell the class what his/her group thinks about those issues.
2.2. Guest Lectures
Hopefully, their lectures can be more coherent with the rest of lectures. I know it is very difficult.
2.3. "practical sessions" (EDC, PitaBoard, Role Playing)
I like it. It helps me to understand the system much better.
2.4. small assignments
I benefit a lot from reading the articles.
2.5. efforts of getting course participants involved in the course
I think if we can break the class into a few discussion groups. This may help people to participate in the class.
2.6. use of the Swiki in the course
I would love to try it in my term project. At this moment, it is hard for me to say anything about it since I have tried it yet.
2.7. peer-to-peer learning (e.g., to which extent did it happen in your case)
I hope it will happen in my “collaborative term paper” and “collaborative term project.” At this moment, we have done too much on either one of them yet.
2.8. independent research activities
2.9. course projects
2. which improvements would you like to see for the course?
I hope professor can post his lecture notes one day before the class, so that I can print and read them beforehand. It may help me to be more participated in the class discussion.
3. self-assessment – please let us know how well YOU think you have done in the course Think about this in terms of your performances in:
I think I learn a great deal from the class. I like the class a lot. The class makes me to think very hard, especially how should we integrate IT into our society and future classrooms. I just love this kind of learning. I try not to think of grades.
4.1. please give an honest answer about how much time and effort you have put into your work so far (work hard <--> last-minute effort <--> minimum effort to get by)
I spent a lot of time on the reading assignments. The articles are good but hard. I don’t think I will read them so closely, if they are not my homework assignments.
4.2. participation (including class participation; attendance, ...);
I have learned much from the comments and discussion of my classmates, especially from Bob.
4.3. small assignments,
I put a lot of efforts in my homework.
4.4. your effort thus far in the independent research activities
We just started the work.
4.5. your effort thus far in your project
We have just started our work. It is always hard to coordinate group work.
5. What do you hope to learn from this course?
I have noticed that no team is working on end-user development. I think in order to allow IT to be pervasive in our society we really have to empower them with end-user developed, embedded, task-oriented agents in their digital environments. It is just like the movie we watched in our class that the kid who could do data analysis for the gravity experiment was because he got a very nice digital tool kit in his computer, so he could concentrate himself to what he really wanted to do instead of programming the tasks from scratch.
5.1. originally before the course started?
I was not too sure. I only knew you were a famous professor.
5.2. now (close to the end of February?)
6. anything else you would like us to know?
Meta-design and More successful cases like the embedded critiquing system for designing kitchens.
