1. what are aspects of the course so far that are positive and should be sustained?

I like the fact that this class isn't based on lectures, but incorporates other ways of presenting ideas and materials. Because the concepts can be somewhat abstract, seeing real-world implementations and visualizations are very helpful for me.

2. what do you think about the following parts of the course?

2.1. Lectures

They are okay, but not my favorite way of getting the information.

2.2. Guest Lectures

Elisa's presentation was really fascinating and was a great introduction to thinking of art in a entirely new way.

2.3. "practical sessions" (EDC, PitaBoard, Role Playing)

I really like the hands-on learning these practical sessions offer.

2.4. small assignments

I think they are good because they encourage me to read and think about the essays and to prepare for class.

2.5. efforts of getting course participants involved in the course

Very good. The class discussions are interesting and generally present ideas I would not have considered on my own.

2.6. use of the Swiki in the course

It's a really easy way to post homeworks and to get information. I haven't really used it for discussion purposes; I use email instead.

2.7. peer-to-peer learning (e.g., to which extent did it happen in your case)

I like the open discussion forum in the class. I learn about different resources and different perspectives from the other students.

2.8. independent research activities

I don't know yet. The book my team has chosen seems interesting, but I reserve judgement on the research activity until it's done.

2.9. course projects

I don't know yet. It seems like a good way to get hands-on design experience and to apply some of the principles of class. But again, I reserve judgement until the end of the course.

3. which improvements would you like to see for the course?

I can't think of anything at the moment.

4. self-assessment – please let us know how well YOU think you have done in the course Think about this in terms of your performances in:

4.1. please give an honest answer about how much time and effort you have put into your work so far (work hard <--> last-minute effort <--> minimum effort to get by)

Thus far, my effort has been in the middle. I haven't had to work really hard yet, but I put forth more than the minimum/last-minute effort. I expect the amount of time I spend and the effort I exert will increase with the independent research and project.

4.2. participation (including class participation; attendance, ...);

I have had to miss several classes because my son was sick and I do regret that. I think alot of information and ideas are exchanged in class that I don't get otherwise. I think my participation in class has been pretty good. I probably speak up as much as most people. Whether my ideas are worth hearing, I can't answer that.

4.3. small assignments,

I'm doing okay on the small assignments. There has been one assignment I've had trouble completing, but I've been able to do the rest of them.

4.4. your effort thus far in the independent research activities

Minimal. But it will pick up after March 10 (the deadline for the Masters comp exam).

4.5. your effort thus far in your project

Minimal. Same as above.

5. What do you hope to learn from this course?

5.1. originally before the course started?

My main interest at the beginning of the course was to learn about the design of user interfaces.

5.2. now (close to the end of February?)

In general, I'm still interested in design, but have expanded it to different types of design process.

6. anything else you would like us to know?

It's been interesting so far, much better than my expectations.
