Assignment 8
Jennifer Tamez

Role-play participant perspective:
1. What were your impressions of your role-play experience?
I thought that it was a good experience for my role/character. It allows a way to involve the community and a way that voices my role's needs and opinions - it is interactive in a way that keeps me interested but also makes me aware of my community's opinons and needs as well.
2. Were there any aspects of the role play that made you apprehensive?
Yes, that I would find my personal needs and comments to not be needed or necessary.
3. Did you feel that the role play contained any elements of what real users from a real neighborhood working on a real problem might have been lacking from the experience that would have existed in a real situation rather than a role play?
Yes, there were situations that people in every role might come across.
4. What do you think might have been lacking from the experience that would have existed in a real situation rather that a role play?
It might not have been a correct representation of who would be involved. That is always unpredictable, but some of the roles might not have been there, and some that were not included might have been there.
5. Were there any ways that the technology aided you in reaching a decision? Were there any ways that it impeded the process?
The technology, I think, allows the process to move quicker than usual because it makes it active and visible in a way that it would not have been before.
Designer's perspective:
1. Do you feel that there is any merit to this form of assessment compared to more traditional isolated task-oriented methods.
I think that this way is more helpful and a better way to make the community want to be involved.
2. What insights do you think that might be gleaned from using this technique that other techniques might miss?
It shows the designers and the community what real problems a new route might encounter that could be missed - or what opportunities become available that benefits majority of the community.
3. What limits do you see to the technique?
That more than 10 people (or however many can be involved) can not participate. I think a way to include everyone that wants to participate would be more beneficial. I also think that there needs to be a system or a way to find out demographic information without everyone reaching over other people and the board.
4. What aspects of the design do you think could be added, removed, or improved to better support the desired participatory outcomes of the process? These can be related to the technology, the social setup, the information provided, the process followed, or other aspects that you think are important.
How to involve everyone in a more organized fashion.
